83% of Cypriots Engage in Social Networks, Surpassing the EU Average

Denmark Led the Chart While Cyprus Closely Followed in Second Place

In 2023, a staggering 83% of the Cypriot population participated in social media platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok. This percentage significantly exceeds the European Union average of 59%, as reported by Eurostat, the EU's statistical office.

Denmark led the chart with the highest percentage of individuals active on social networks, with user profiles, messaging, or posting, reaching 91%. Cyprus closely followed in second place with 83%, and Hungary was third at 81%.

The lowest participation rates in social networks in 2023 were recorded in France (44%), Germany (49%), and Italy (53%).

At the regional level (NUTS 2 and NUTS3), social network participation exceeded 50% in 224 out of 273 EU regions. Cyprus is considered a single region for statistical analysis due to its size and population.

The highest percentages were observed in Denmark's five regions: Central Jutland (93%), the Copenhagen area (92%), Southern Denmark (90%), and both North Jutland and Zealand at 89%.

Other EU regions reporting high social media usage included Hungary's Budapest (86%) and Pest (84%) regions, and Flevoland (84%) in the Netherlands.

The lowest rates, falling below 40%, were primarily in France and Germany. In France, the lowest rates were in Guyana (22%), Martinique (29%), Guadeloupe (30%), Brittany (38%), Upper Normandy (39%), and Burgundy (40%). In Germany, these were recorded in Saxony-Anhalt (35%), Brandenburg (36%), Thuringia (38%), and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (40%).
