Cyprus AI Task Force Holds Inaugural Meeting to Update National AI Strategy
Committee of Experts Sets Priorities to Finalize National AI Action Plan by End of 2025
The National Committee for Artificial Intelligence of Cyprus (AI Task Force) held its inaugural meeting, according to a press release by the Research and Innovation Foundation. The committee is tasked with updating the country’s strategy in the rapidly evolving field of technology.
The session was chaired by the Chief Scientist for Research, Innovation and Technology, and President of the AI Task Force, Demetris Skourides, who presented the committee’s goals and priorities to its members.

During the session, the committee agreed on the next steps to ensure the completion of the national Artificial Intelligence action plan by the end of the year. The plan will focus particularly on supporting research and innovation in Cyprus.
The committee comprises distinguished scientists, academics, and professionals from Cyprus and abroad, all with significant experience in artificial intelligence and innovation.

The establishment of the Committee by the Council of Ministers, the press release notes, "reflects Cyprus’ commitment to shaping a human-centered, ethically grounded AI policy aligned with European values."

Exploration of ways to accelerate innovation and the adoption of AI using the EU AI Act
The session also included discussions and exchanges of views on managing change, integrating AI into education, assessing the maturity of Cyprus’ industry, and developing infrastructure for a digital state where AI is a foundational element for both public and private sectors. Other topics addressed included data preparation for AI, GDPR compliance, and the development of data spaces.
