Cyprus Forests: High-Tech Equipment for Enhanced Wildfire Management
Cyta’s Support Enables Real-Time High-Definition Image Transmission from Remote Areas
The Cyprus Forest Association has entered into an agreement to procure advanced technological equipment that will enable the transmission of high-definition images from remote areas to operations centers. The initiative, supported by Cyta (Cyprus Telecommunications Authority), aims to improve wildfire management and coordination.
The equipment will be utilized by the Department of Forests and will provide a reliable wireless data transmission infrastructure. This technology allows real-time connectivity for multiple users, ensuring high-definition images from remote regions reach operations centers.
"This enables immediate and well-informed decision-making by those managing forest fires," the Association stated. "It significantly enhances coordination and the efficiency of firefighting operations."
At the signing of the agreement, Dr. Savvas Iezekiel, President of the Cyprus Forest Association, expressed gratitude to Cyta for its long-standing support. He highlighted that this initiative represents a critical step toward safeguarding the island's natural environment and improving forest fire protection.
Aliki Drakou, Cyta’s Director of Sustainable Development, emphasized the organization’s commitment to using technology for the benefit of humanity and the environment. She noted that reducing the organization’s carbon footprint is a key part of Cyta's sustainable development strategy.
