Cyprus Emerges As A Key Innovation Hub In Digital Technology

Leaders Highlight Cyprus's Role In Regional Digital Transformation

Today, in joint statements, the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation, and Digital Policy, Nikodimos Damianou, and the Secretary-General of the Digital Cooperation Organization, Dima Al Yahya, emphasized the pivotal role of Cyprus in technologies and innovation in the region.

Just before their meeting, which focused on deepening the cooperation prospects between the Organization and Cyprus, Damianou and Al Yahya highlighted the significant role Cyprus can play in the digital transition due to its strategic location among three continents.

Mr. Damianou stated that the government's goal is to leverage Cyprus's position, being the first EU member state to join the Organization, to emerge as a "bridge between nations, people, and ideas." He also emphasized the government's commitment to upgrading the digital landscape, making digital transition its top priority.

He particularly noted the need for stronger collaborations to promote common goals, pointing out that this is also the Organization's intention. He stressed that digital technologies are "a cornerstone of sustainable development, social progress, and prosperity."

The Deputy Minister also mentioned the steps Cyprus has already taken to develop a robust digital economy, adding that the country is "rapidly evolving into a regional hub for technology and innovation, serving businesses and organizations seeking a reliable gateway to Europe and the region."

The aim, he said, is for Cyprus to become a bridge facilitating communication, cooperation, and the transfer of expertise between countries and people in the region. He noted that the meeting with the Organization's delegation confirms the close ties between the two parties and expressed confidence that it will lead to deepening their relationships and cooperation.

On behalf of the Organization, Ms. Al Yahya also referred to Cyprus's strategic location among three continents, noting that it makes it a passageway for startups and companies focusing on new technologies. "This position has allowed the country to evolve into a thriving hub for innovation," she said, adding that Cyprus is "a shining example of how cooperation between governments, the private sector, and innovative entrepreneurs can bring sustainable development and economic robustness."

She also noted that Cyprus plays a central role in shaping the Organization's collective vision, explaining that its role is "to bridge digital divides and create inclusive opportunities, ensuring that technology acts as a lever for positive change."

"We, along with our member states, are united in our efforts to ensure that digital opportunities are accessible to all," Ms. Al Yahya said, highlighting the importance of international and cross-border cooperation.

"By promoting an environment of mutual support and collective action, especially among our member states, the Organization leads to meaningful progress and creates lasting impact," she concluded, expressing optimism about achieving this goal.
