Cyprus Seeds Launches New Innovation Teams in 4th Cycle

A highly competitive selection process saw 19 research teams from over 13 institutions vying for a spot.

On February 17, Cyprus Seeds hosted an inspiring event at PwC Cyprus' Experience Center to unveil its new teams for the 4th cycle of research-driven innovation. The gathering brought together influential figures from academia, business, and government, all committed to transforming cutting-edge research into thriving startups.

A highly competitive selection process saw 19 research teams from over 13 institutions vying for a spot. After a rigorous evaluation by 21 experts from the US, UK, and Greece, five new projects were chosen, alongside one project continuing from the previous cycle.

The winning teams represent esteemed organizations such as the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence, the University of Cyprus, the biobank.cy Center of Excellence in Biobanking and Biomedical Research, the FREDERICK CENTER FOR RESEARCH AND EDUCATION IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, and The Cyprus Institute of Neurology & Genetics.

The event attracted more than 55 in-person attendees, with an additional 20 participants joining virtually from abroad.

Distinguished guests added gravitas to the occasion, including Dr. Nikodimos Damianou, Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation & Digital Policy; Theodoros Loukaidis, Director General of the Research and Innovation Foundation; Jeremy Downward, Board Member of The Hellenic Initiative and President of Cyprus Seeds; as well as key members of the Cyprus Seeds Board of Directors and other leading academic and business representatives.

Looking forward, the selected teams will benefit from targeted support including funding, mentorship, training, and networking opportunities. They will also gain access to ConceptionX, one of the UK’s premier accelerators for deep tech startups, to further boost their journey from the lab to the market.
