Frederick University Announces Study to Assess Smart Readiness Indicator for Buildings
Upon the Completion of the Study, Which Will Last Nine Months, the Average Intelligence Levels of Buildings in Cyprus Will Be Determined
Frederick University announced today the commencement of a study to assess the intelligence levels of buildings in Cyprus, following the guidelines of the European Commission. This study involves the participation of the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, and Industry, subsequent to the General Directorate for Energy of the European Commission being informed by the Ministry about its intention to explore the implementation of the Building Smart Readiness Indicator in Cyprus.
According to the university, the Building Smart Readiness Indicator is an assessment system for the intelligence of buildings. It was established by the European Commission in 2018 through the European directive on the energy performance of buildings. Cyprus becomes the ninth country in the European Union to express its intention to investigate the adoption of this system, through the implementation of a relevant study.
It is added that the study will be carried out by a team of technical advisors, consisting of the Cyprus Energy Office, Frederick University's Sustainable Energy Research Group, and technology companies Euphyia Tech Ltd and CyRIC Ltd.
Upon the completion of the study, which will last nine months, the average intelligence levels of buildings in Cyprus will be determined. Additionally, the study will propose a categorization of these buildings into intelligence indicators, depending on the automation and control systems with which they are equipped.
This development is significant for promoting and establishing smart buildings and smart cities in Cyprus, thus enhancing the conditions for a sustainable and energy-efficient built environment, concludes the announcement.
