Nvidia, Amazon, Tenstorrent and Plug and Play: What They Plan to Do in Cyprus

Cyprus is pressing ahead with its strategy to attract high-value technology investment.

Cyprus is pressing ahead with its strategy to attract high-value technology investment, with advanced discussions and concrete projects involving leading global tech companies, according to Deputy Minister to the President Irene Piki.

Speaking on state radio, she said these efforts form part of a broader plan to strengthen the country’s productive base and long-term growth, centred on partnerships that create high-quality jobs, boost value added and position Cyprus among countries investing in artificial intelligence.

Nvidia and the creation of national AI infrastructure

A key element of this effort is the planned presence of Nvidia in Cyprus. According to Piki, the company is expected to play a central role in the development of a high-performance computing (HPC) system that will support future artificial intelligence data centres on the island.

The project will result in a major upgrade of national HPC infrastructure through the creation of a supercomputer, addressing what she described as a significant gap in Cyprus’ computational capabilities. The infrastructure will be hosted within a research centre and made available to the broader research and innovation ecosystem, while also providing expertise in the practical application of artificial intelligence.

Tenstorrent expands regional footprint from Cyprus

Alongside Nvidia, Piki highlighted the expanding presence of Tenstorrent, which has already taken concrete steps in Cyprus. Following the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Research and Innovation Foundation, the company has established offices on the island.

Cyprus is expected to function not only as a base for domestic operations, but also as a regional hub, supporting activities across neighbouring markets and reinforcing the country’s ambition to act as a regional technology gateway.

Piki stressed that cooperation with Nvidia and Tenstorrent did not stem from a single high-level meeting, but rather from sustained engagement and follow-up visits in the months following the President’s visit to the United States.

Amazon discussions continue, focus on satellite connectivity

Discussions with Amazon are also continuing, although no agreement has yet been finalised. Piki confirmed that a senior Amazon executive specialising in low-Earth-orbit satellite systems visited Cyprus last week.

Talks focused on the potential establishment of a meaningful Amazon presence through the provision of secure and reliable satellite internet services. Such a development, she said, would further reinforce Cyprus’ technology ecosystem, which has already attracted interest from major international players.

Plug and Play launches three-year programme in Cyprus

A separate strategic partnership is taking shape with Plug and Play Tech Center, one of the world’s largest innovation platform operators. Unlike the other collaborations, Plug and Play’s focus is on supporting startups and scaling innovation.

The company is expected to launch a dedicated three-year programme in Cyprus, integrating the country into its global network of accelerator hubs. The initiative is set to offer local startups access to mentorship, corporate partners and international markets, strengthening the country’s entrepreneurship support framework.

More international outreach planned for 2026

Looking ahead, Piki said further visits by the President to the United States are planned for 2026, linked to the “Minds in Cyprus” initiative aimed at encouraging Cypriot professionals abroad to return home.

In parallel, a presidential visit to India is expected in the first half of the year, building on momentum created by the recent visit of the Indian Prime Minister and signalling the expansion of Cyprus’ technology and business diplomacy beyond its traditional partners.
