Interior Ministry Completes Second Phase of Population Registry Digitalisation to Simplify Public Access to State Services

Six new digital public services are now available through the Gov.cy portal (Citizen and Daily Life > Personal Documents), following the completion of the second phase of the Population Registry digitalisation project by the Ministry of Interior, as officially announced.

According to the Ministry, this rollout aligns with the strategic goal of the Christodoulides administration to advance digital modernisation and to streamline how citizens interact and transact with the state. The six new services were developed by the Digital Services Factory, a specialist team under the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy.

The newly launched services include the following:

  • Issuance/renewal of ID cards and passports for minors

  • Issuance/renewal of ID cards and passports for adults and minors due to loss or damage

  • Issuance of passports for adults and minors via fast-track procedure

  • Issuance of a refugee identity card

  • Application for displaced person (refugee) status

  • Search request in the Population Registry for locating relatives

It is noted that, except for ID and passport services, which require a physical visit for biometric data collection after submitting the online application, all other services are completed entirely online.

The Ministry also reminded the public that the first wave of digital services, launched in June 2024, included:

  • Reissuance of birth and death certificates (including consular ones)

  • Online application for ID and passport issuance/renewal for adults

  • Issuance of permanent residence certificates

  • Issuance of student origin verification certificates.
