Cyprus Ranks Last in Europe for Judicial Case Resolution Time

Primary Court Cases Take an Average of 800 Days; Appeals Around 1700 Days

Cyprus ranks last in Europe for the time it takes to resolve judicial cases, with an average of 800 days needed for primary court cases and approximately 1700 days for appeals.

This data was published in the "EU Justice Scoreboard," with the president of the Cyprus Bar Association commenting that "the time required for justice delivery in Cyprus has a long way to go before reaching acceptable levels." Michalis Vorkas also stated that while some areas show positive results due to reforms, there are still sectors that need improvement.

Cyprus has the second-highest number of lawyers per capita, following the tiny nation of Luxembourg, but is among the European countries with the fewest judges. According to the data, Cyprus' judges are the second highest-paid in Europe after ten years of service.
