Microsoft Unveils AI-Powered Copilot+ PCs

New Features Include Detailed Tracking with Enhanced Security Measures

Microsoft is leading the development of artificial intelligence technologies, primarily through its partnership with OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, in which it holds a 49% stake after investing billions of dollars. It is believed that following a management crisis at OpenAI a few months ago, Microsoft now has informal control over the company.

This week, Microsoft introduced a new category of AI-enabled computers called Copilot+ and integrated AI technology into its Surface laptop series. These technologies are embedded both in the hardware components and the operating system, Windows.

Comprehensive Tracking

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that all computer manufacturers partnering with Microsoft (including Dell, Lenovo, Samsung, HP, Acer, and Asus) will release devices with Copilot+. One standout feature is called "Recall."

This tool tracks all activities on the computer, from web browsing to voice conversations, continuously capturing screenshots to create a detailed history stored on the computer. The aim is to allow users to search and find information about their past activities, even months later. However, this raises serious security concerns if the data falls into the wrong hands.

Microsoft responded swiftly, stating that the system has multiple security measures in place, making it very difficult to intercept stored usage data. According to the company, the stored history files are not sent to any Microsoft data centers, and the company has no access to them. Additionally, remote data acquisition is impossible; anyone seeking the data would need physical access to the computer and knowledge of the access codes.
