Who Will Attend the 2024 World Economic Forum in Davos?

WEF Summit to Adress Key Global Issues Under Geopolitical Strain

The global elite are preparing their skis and private jets for the 2024 World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. The WEF 2024, themed "Rebuilding Trust," is set to take place from today, January 15, to January 19, under the shadow of geopolitical tensions and challenges in international trade. Key issues such as inflation, growth, the war in Ukraine and Israel, technological advancements, and deglobalization will dominate the agenda.

Prominent political figures expected at the Forum include China's second-in-command, Li Keqiang, and French President Emmanuel Macron. Macron will be the sole G7 country leader in attendance, mirroring German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's participation last year.

Some speculate that politicians are becoming increasingly cautious about attending such events, given the cost-of-living crisis and domestic challenges they face. Notably, neither US President Joe Biden nor UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak have attended the Forum since assuming their political roles.

In addition, numerous other leaders and finance ministers from countries like Spain, Belgium, Colombia, Iraq, Lebanon, Ireland, Kenya, Nigeria, Thailand, and Singapore, among others, will be present in Davos this year.

From the USA, attendees will include Secretary of State Antony Blinken, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, and Special Envoy for Climate Change John Kerry.

Argentinian President Javier Milei is expected to draw attention during his speech on Wednesday. The newly elected politician has already sparked protests in his country following shock decisions and currency devaluation. He has committed to dollarizing Argentina's economy and abolishing the country's central bank.

Furthermore, many anticipate the panel discussion featuring OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. Joining him on the panel will be the UK's Chancellor of the Exchequer, Jeremy Hunt, and Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla.

Top global economic figures will also participate in the Forum, including IMF head Kristalina Georgieva, World Bank President Ajay Banga, and WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

Finally, heads of international organizations such as UN Secretary-General António Guterres, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, and Human Rights Watch's Tirana Hassan will be present.
