Nicholas Zoe Foundation and Boston Children’s Hospital Join Forces to Change the Future of Children with Cancer
A Golden Effort – From Cyprus to Boston.
The Nicholas Zoe Foundation is actively contributing to the global fight against childhood cancer by providing substantial funding to pioneering research programs at Boston Children’s Hospital — the top pediatric hospital in the United States and one of the world’s leading centers for pediatric research.
On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 19:00, at the Old Nicosia Town Hall, the joint mission of the two organizations will be presented in Cyprus for the first time: to strengthen pediatric research, accelerate diagnosis, and offer more effective treatments for children battling cancer.
The event, held under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, is titled “A Golden Effort – From Cyprus to Boston,” inspired by “Gold September,” the international awareness month for childhood cancer. It is a deeply human and scientific initiative that begins in Cyprus and reaches all the way to Boston, aiming to bring knowledge, treatment, and a new outlook on life to children around the world.
During the event, leading scientists from Boston Children’s Hospital will present the progress of a highly significant research project supported by the Foundation: the development of a non-invasive method for early diagnosis of Ewing Sarcoma — a rare and aggressive form of childhood cancer — through liquid biopsy. The event will also feature a charity art auction of works by acclaimed Cypriot artists, curated by Art Historian Maria Paphiti, with all proceeds going toward supporting the Foundation’s mission.
The Nicholas Zoe Foundation was founded in 2023 by Alexia Potamitou in memory of her son, Nikola Artemiou, who passed away at the age of nine after bravely battling Ewing Sarcoma. Nikola was a bright child, with rare sensitivity and kindness, who radiated joy and belief in life even through hardship. His loss became the starting point for the creation of a Foundation that offers other children what he was denied: access to specialized treatments, support, and hope for the future.
With a presence in both Cyprus and the United States, the Foundation funds innovative research programs focused on the early diagnosis and effective treatment of childhood cancer. It also supports families facing the disease and raises awareness through educational campaigns, international collaborations, and philanthropic initiatives.
