Presidency Handover: Deputy Minister Marilena Raouna in Brussels for General Affairs Council

European Affairs Deputy Minister in Brussels to Participate in Gac

Following the conclusion of the Cypriot EU Council Presidency, Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna is in Brussels for the General Affairs Council. The agenda includes reviewing the Irish Presidency's priorities, discussing market roadmap strategies with Enrico Letta, and joining key Intergovernmental Conferences.

Participation in the General Affairs Council

Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna travels to Brussels on Monday, where she will participate in the European Union (EU) General Affairs Council, taking place on Tuesday.

Presentation of New Presidency Priorities

According to a press release by the Secretariat of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU, "at the opening of the Council, the Irish Presidency will present its priorities for the second half of 2026, with an emphasis on priorities falling within the competence of the General Affairs Council".

Simplification and the Rule of Law

It added that the Ministers will exchange views regarding the progress and future orientation of work concerning the simplification process. The Council will also be called upon to approve conclusions regarding the evaluation of its annual dialogue on the rule of law.

The "One Europe, One Market" Roadmap

During an informal lunch, the Ministers will discuss the "One Europe, One Market" roadmap with Enrico Letta.

Intergovernmental Conferences and Presidency Context

Raouna will also participate in the EU Intergovernmental Conferences with Ukraine, Montenegro, Moldova, and Albania, which will take place on the same day, the press release concluded.

Cyprus assumed the Presidency of the EU Council in the first half of 2026 and handed it over on July 1st 2026.
