Alpha Bank Cyprus Supports the Dialogue on Women’s Financial Empowerment

The Event Was Organized by the Financial Wellbeing Institute Under the Auspices of the Deputy Minister to the President.

Alpha Bank Cyprus participated as an Official Supporter in the event titled “Women’s Financial Wellbeing and Its Role in Shaping Social and Economic Resilience,” which took place on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the Strovolos Municipal Cultural Center “Nikolaos Mountis.” The event was organized by the Financial Wellbeing Institute under the auspices of the Deputy Minister to the President, Ms. Irene Piki.

The event highlighted the importance of women’s financial wellbeing as a key factor in social cohesion, economic independence, and broader resilience. It also opened a timely and meaningful dialogue around issues such as financial literacy, access to knowledge, entrepreneurship, workplace equality, and retirement planning.

As part of the event, the CEO of Alpha Bank Cyprus, Mr. Miltos Michailas, delivered a speech emphasizing that financial wellbeing is a prerequisite for autonomy, security, and future prospects for every individual. He further noted that Alpha Bank Cyprus considers the promotion of financial literacy an integral part of the role a modern bank should play, contributing meaningfully to empowering individuals through knowledge, guidance, and access to reliable information.

As he stated, this approach is directly linked to the way the Bank perceives its responsibility as an organization and is reflected in the values of the Alpha Way, namely Excellence, Innovation, Empowerment, Effectiveness, and Collaboration. He also pointed out that Alpha Bank Cyprus’ support for this event is part of a broader strategy to cultivate financial education from an early stage and over time, through its participation in educational and social initiatives in Cyprus.

A notable contribution also came from Ms. Popi Hadjioannou Demetriou, Chief Retail Banking Officer of Alpha Bank Cyprus, who took part in a fireside chat on women’s financial empowerment, moderated by Dr. Panayiotis H. Andreou, President of the Financial Wellbeing Institute. The discussion also featured, among others, Ms. Josie Christodoulou, Commissioner for Gender Equality, representatives of institutions and organizations, as well as executives from the wider public and private sectors.

The discussion focused on the barriers that continue to affect women’s financial wellbeing, financial confidence, the need to break down social stereotypes, and practical actions that can meaningfully contribute to closing the gap in the coming years. The fireside chat was followed by an open discussion with the audience and networking among participants.

Alpha Bank Cyprus remains committed to supporting initiatives that enhance financial literacy, expand access to knowledge, and contribute meaningfully to shaping a society with more opportunities, equality, and economic resilience for all.
