Cyprus Creates First Business Association of Sports to Boost Sports Innovation and Investment
The CCCI-backed initiative aims to unite business and sports under one dynamic platform.
Cyprus is establishing its first Business Association of Sports (BAS) through the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), aiming to position the island as a regional hub for sports business and innovation.
According to a CCCI announcement, the BAS was created to unite the sports and business sectors, promoting collaboration, innovation, and sustainable growth. Through a network of partnerships, advocacy initiatives, and educational opportunities, BAS will support companies, organizations, and professionals active in the sports industry.
"The creation of BAS marks a new era for sports in Cyprus,” the CCCI stated, “as, for the first time, a body is being established to systematically connect the business and sports sectors. Its goal is to attract investment, foster innovation, and create new opportunities for employment and development.”
The CCCI Secretary-General, Philokypros Rousounides, described the association’s launch as a significant step toward advancing sports in Cyprus through collaboration and business outreach. “The CCCI will always support every initiative that contributes to the progress of our country,” Rousounides emphasized.
The association aims to serve as a bridge between entrepreneurship and sports, enhancing international participation and contributing to Cyprus’s economic, social, and environmental growth.
BAS President Eva Pourkou noted that the global sports industry is evolving rapidly and that Cyprus possesses untapped potential in this field. “Through BAS, we offer representation, visibility, and access to opportunities. Businesses need an organized platform to connect with the sports ecosystem—and that’s exactly what BAS provides,” she said.
According to the CCCI, BAS welcomes businesses, sports federations, clubs, service providers, and startups interested in engaging with the sports business sector. By offering networking events, collaborations with local and international bodies, and access to specialized knowledge, members will be able to strengthen their market position and unlock new growth prospects.
The BAS Board of Directors consists of:
-
President: Eva Pourkou
-
Vice President: Aris Potamitis
-
Secretary General: Panos Georgiou
-
Treasurer: Marios Athanasiou
-
Member: Mary Charalambous Papamiltiades
Operating under the auspices of the CCCI, BAS is open to companies, organizations, and professionals seeking to contribute to the growth of the sports business ecosystem in Cyprus.
