The Water Development Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and the Environment has announced that Cyprus’s first mobile desalination units will be operational by October 2025.
Cyprus has been recognized as a European leader in per capita rainwater storage and the utilization of non-conventional water resources. The country boasts an extensive water management infrastructure, including:

110 dams, of which 57 are classified as large

Five desalination plants, supplying over 70% of household water needs

Nine tertiary sewerage treatment plants, with more than 80% of recovered water repurposed for irrigation
According to the Department, the timeline for the mobile desalination units is on track, pending the completion of all award, licensing, construction, and operational procedures.
