Cyprus Reports Lowest Online Shopping Issues in the EU
One in Three EU Consumers Faces Online Shopping Issues, Eurostat Finds
A Eurostat survey conducted in 2023 revealed that 33.1% of EU consumers encountered issues when shopping online via websites or apps. In contrast, Cyprus reported the lowest rate in the European Union, with only 14.7% of consumers experiencing difficulties, according to data released in recognition of World Consumer Rights Day on March 15.
Among EU countries, the highest percentage of consumers who reported problems within the three months prior to the survey were in:
- Luxembourg (55.5%)
- The Netherlands (55.2%)
- Spain (49.7%)
Conversely, the lowest rates were recorded in:
- Portugal (4.3%)
- Latvia (13.7%)
- Cyprus (14.7%)
The most frequently reported issue across the EU was delayed product deliveries, affecting 18.7% of online shoppers. The second most common complaint involved website malfunctions or usability issues, while the third major issue was receiving incorrect, damaged, or faulty goods or services, affecting 8.6% of consumers.
In Cyprus, the most common issues consumers faced when shopping online were:
- Delayed deliveries (10.1%)
- Receiving incorrect or damaged products (5.5%)
- Online fraud (2.5%)
Despite these challenges, Cyprus still recorded the lowest rate of online shopping issues among EU member states.
