Cyprus Records Historic Increase in Tourism Revenue in 2023

However, There Was a Slight Decrease in the Average Length of Stay, Dropping From 9.4 Days to 8.6 Days

Cyprus's tourism sector has achieved a historic high in 2023. According to preliminary estimates from the Statistical Service, the revenue from tourism reached €2.990 billion, surpassing pre-pandemic levels and marking a significant 22.6% increase from €2.439 billion in 2022.

This surge in tourism revenue has not only eclipsed 2022's figures but also the pre-pandemic numbers of 2019, which stood at €2.7 billion. December 2023 alone witnessed a 29% hike in tourism income, reaching €74.3 million, compared to €57.6 million in December 2022 and €54.6 million in the same month of 2019. The strongest months for 2023 were August, with €483 million and a 20% increase from the previous year, and July, with €454.6 million, marking a 19% rise compared to July 2022.

Beyond the boost in revenue, tourist arrivals also showed impressive growth, with 3.8 million in 2023, up from 3.2 million in 2022 and close to the 4 million mark of 2019.

Interestingly, the average spending per tourist stood at €777.68, slightly higher than in 2022. Among all markets, Poland registered the most significant increase in spending.

However, there was a slight decrease in the average length of stay, dropping from 9.4 days to 8.6 days.

A recent report presented to the parliamentary economic committee highlighted tourism's growing contribution to the country's GDP, expected to increase to 12.8% in 2023 from 12.2% in 2022.
