Cyprus Trade Deficit Surges Despite Export Boom
April 2025 Figures Reveal Alarming Gap
The trade deficit in Cyprus reached €2.613,7 million in the period January–April 2025, reflecting an increase of €149.5 million compared to the same period in 2024. This occurred despite a sharp rise in exports, according to preliminary data released by the Statistical Service on Tuesday.
Imports and Exports (January–April 2025)
During this four-month period:

Total imports of goods rose to €4,356.9 million, up 18.9% from €3,665.6 million in 2024.

Total exports recorded a significant increase of 45.1%, reaching €1,743.2 million, compared to €1,201.4 million during the same period last year.
April 2025 Trade Activity
In April 2025 alone, total imports of goods amounted to €1,156 million, representing a 4.4% increase compared to €1,106.8 million in April 2024.

Imports from EU Member States: €715.9 million (up from €661.3 million)

Imports from third countries: €440.1 million (down slightly from €445.5 million)
This total includes the transfer of economic ownership of ships and aircraft, valued at €142.6 million, compared to €151.0 million in April 2024.
Meanwhile, total exports of goods stood at €390 million in April 2025, reflecting a 10.7% year-on-year increase from €352.4 million.

Included in these figures is the transfer of economic ownership of ships, valued at €32.8 million, down from €38.2 million in April 2024.
The Statistical Service also released final data for March 2025, showing total imports of €1,031.1 million, an increase of 24.5% compared to €828.1 million in March 2024.

Exports of domestically produced goods, including ship and aircraft supplies, totaled €283.4 million, a sharp 87.4% increase from €151.2 million in March 2024.
