Cyprus Expected to Join U.S. Visa Waiver Program by September 2025

90% of Processes Completed, Says Deputy Minister to the President

Cyprus is expected to join the U.S. Visa Waiver Program by September 2025, according to Deputy Minister to the President, Irini Piki. Speaking on the RIK show "Apo Mera se Mera", Piki stated that 90% of the required processes have been completed, with only a visit from a U.S. delegation to Cyprus still pending.

As part of the enhanced relationship between Cyprus and the United States, progress has been substantial. The U.S. State Department recently announced that the visa rejection rate for Cypriot citizens in 2024 stands at 2.16%, below the 3% threshold required for participation in the Visa Waiver Program.

Piki highlighted the significance of this milestone in a post on the platform X, describing it as another critical step toward Cyprus’s inclusion in the program. She emphasized that this achievement reflects the substantial progress made by the Cypriot government, particularly over the past year, in its technical consultations with the U.S.

The anticipated inclusion of Cyprus in the program underscores the strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries. The Visa Waiver Program will enable Cypriot citizens to travel to the U.S. for tourism or business without needing a visa, marking a significant step forward in U.S.-Cyprus relations.
