Final Stages of Construction Industry Collective Agreement Renewal

Minister of Labour Holds Crucial Meetings with Workers' Unions and Employers

The process of renewing the collective agreement in the construction industry is entering its final stages, as meetings on the issue are taking place this week, according to sources from the Cyprus News Agency.

After two years of negotiations, the CNA reports that the Minister of Labour will meet with workers' unions in the construction industry today afternoon, June 5. He will then hold separate meetings with the employers in the sector and on Friday, he is expected to bring both parties together in an effort to find common ground.

Sources from the Ministry of Labour informed CNA that the Minister, along with ministry officials and social partners, will be absent next week in Switzerland for the International Labour Organization Conference. Therefore, the Minister is expected to submit his final mediation proposal upon his return.

The government, according to CNA's information, appears determined to exhaust all possibilities for dialogue to reach a positive conclusion and remains optimistic that this will be achieved.

On their part, the unions—SEK, PEO, DEOK—according to CNA sources, seem willing to give credit for the final stretch of the effort. However, they remain prepared, should an agreement not be reached, to hold joint General Assemblies to inform workers and decide whether to initiate measures, based on the provisions of the Industrial Relations Code.
