The Officials Were Given a Tour of the Jebel Ali Port, the Flagship of the Ports Managed by DP World, and the Drydocks World Shipyard

During a recent visit to DP World's headquarters in Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Cyprus’ Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeadis, and the Deputy Minister of Shipping, Marina Hatzimanolis, discussed potential areas of cooperation, including leveraging Cyprus’ geographic position and capabilities.

According to a statement from DP World Limassol, the visit took place over two days, March 24 and 25. The officials were given a tour of the Jebel Ali port, the flagship of the ports managed by DP World, and the Drydocks World shipyard. These facilities are recognized as leading commercial hubs for the broader region.

During the visit, Vafeadis and Hatzimanoli were informed about DP World's sustainable and efficient operations, its infrastructure, and the supply chain solutions it offers.

The Cypriot delegation and top executives of DP World discussed possible areas of collaboration, focusing on opportunities for joint exploitation of Cyprus's geographical position and capabilities, as noted in the statement.

In a joint statement, the Minister of Transport and the Deputy Minister of Shipping described the visit to Dubai as highly constructive, expressing gratitude to DP World for the valuable insights and ongoing cooperation. They emphasized the prospect of continuing this constructive collaboration.

Raising the Bar for the Limassol Port

Simon Pitout, Managing Director of DP World Limassol, stated that the general cargo and cruise terminal manager in the Limassol port is a vital partner of the state and a key player in the shipping industry and, by extension, the Cypriot economy.

"The visit of the ministers to our headquarters is a testament to our close cooperation with the Government and reaffirms our commitment to establishing DP World Limassol as the leading port operator in the Eastern Mediterranean," said Pitout.

He expressed hope that their visit would further strengthen collaboration with the government, raising the bar for the Limassol port and generating multiple benefits for the local economy.

The announcement also highlighted that DP World, with its vast network of terminals, economic zones, and inland transport extending across six continents, is well-positioned to support Cyprus in enhancing its port and maritime industry, promoting economic growth and trade connectivity.

"DP World is also capable of supporting the government's efforts to decarbonize the economy through the implementation of renewable energy projects," the statement added.
