The Minister of Energy, Georgios Papanastasiou, announced the discovery of a high-quality natural gas deposit. This major find, located in the "Kronos Two" target within Block 6 of the Cypriot Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), is linked to the "Kronos One" reservoir.

According to the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (RIK), Minister Papanastasiou heralded this as a positive turn in the realm of natural gas exploration and exploitation. He expressed optimism for the future, estimating that by 2026-27, Cyprus could be extracting natural gas from these deposits.

While emphasizing the geopolitical dimensions of natural gas, Minister Papanastasiou underlined that this does not preclude Cyprus from taking careful and controlled steps towards achieving its objectives. He noted that the final announcement from the involved company is awaited, which will provide further details on the scale and potential of the find.
