OPAP Cyprus, LNG Terminal, and Interconnector on Today's Parliamentary Agenda
Parliamentary Committees to Tackle Key Issues
Significant topics will be addressed in the parliamentary committees' agendas on Tuesday, June 25, including the progress of the LNG terminal at Vasilikos, the Cyprus-Greece-Israel electrical interconnection, and the ongoing discussion regarding the Audit Office's report on OPAP.
Specifically, according to the relevant post on the Parliament's website, the parliamentary committees on Energy (9:00), Agriculture (11:30), Audit (11:00), and Labour (11:00) will convene today.
In the Energy Committee, according to the agenda, the Minister of Energy, Commerce, and Industry, George Papanastasiou, has been invited to brief the MPs on the progress of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal at Vasilikos and the Cyprus-Greece-Israel electrical interconnection via the Great Sea Interconnector undersea cable.
It is worth noting that the LNG terminal issue was also discussed in a previous closed session of the Committee on June 11. After the meeting, the Energy Minister stated that both involved parties, ETYFA and the Chinese company CPP Metron, are willing to reach a different arrangement regarding the completion horizon of the terminal and the regasification of LNG at Vasilikos, possibly outside the contract, and that "all alternatives are on the table" and under discussion between the parties.
Additionally, the Parliamentary Audit Committee will continue its discussion on the ex officio examination of the Auditor General's Annual Report for 2022 concerning OPAP (Cyprus) Ltd.
For this matter, the session will be attended by the Auditor General Odysseas Michaelides, the Director General of the Ministry of Finance George Panteli, the Accountant General Andreas Antoniades, members of the Coordinating Committee for managing the contracting process, representatives of the Republic's Legal Service, Tax Commissioner Sotiris Markides, State Aid Control Commissioner Stella Michaelidou, the Chair of the National Betting Authority Ioanna Fiakou, the chairman and members of the OPAP Cyprus board, and the Deputy CEO of OPAP Cyprus.
