Paphos Hoteliers Face Low Expectations Ahead of Holiday Weekends
Challenges for Upcoming Tourism Season Highlighted by Hotel Association President
Hoteliers in Paphos hold low expectations for the upcoming holiday weekends, as visitation levels are anticipated to be modest, according to Euripides Loizides, President of the Paphos Hotel Association. This outlook is based on current booking trends.
In his statements to the Cyprus News Agency, Mr. Loizides mentioned that the visitation during the Clean Monday, March 25th, and April 1st holidays does not meet the hoteliers' expectations. He expressed disappointment, noting that they had hoped for better results.
Regarding the start of the tourist season, the President of Paphos Hotel Association estimated that April poses challenges for visitation and occupancy in April and May. This is partly due to the early Easter holiday for British tourists, which typically influences travel patterns.
He also added that so far, bookings for July appear to be reduced, possibly due to concerns raised by last year's heatwave.
Mr. Loizides noted the uncertainty of whether Israeli tourists, who significantly contributed to Cyprus's tourism in 2023 with 300,000 visitors, will return to Paphos this year.
Therefore, the upcoming season is not expected to be very promising, primarily due to unpredictable factors such as the Israel-Gaza conflict and the grounding of several aircraft of an airline company in Larnaca.
