Proposal for New Initiative Targeted for End of 2023 Submission

The Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK) is moving forward with a feasibility study and strategic plan for the establishment of a School of Maritime Sciences, Technology, and Sustainable Development in Larnaca.

According to a Larnaca municipality statement, a meeting took place on Wednesday at the TEPAK Rectorate Office in Limassol. The meeting brought together Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vira and city representatives with the TEPAK University Council team, led by Rector Panagiotis Zafeiris.

The purpose of this meeting, the statement noted, was to discuss the establishment of the aforementioned school, especially after a letter dated August 28, 2023, from the President of the Republic.

Rector Zafeiris informed Mayor Vira about the TEPAK Strategic Planning and Development Committee's decision to prepare a comprehensive study, which will subsequently be sent to the President.

TEPAK, it was highlighted, will soon begin the feasibility study and strategic plan, collaborating with all involved stakeholders and partners to ensure the timely submission of the proposal.

Larnaca's Mayor expressed his satisfaction with this development and declared the city's readiness to assist in preparing the study. As a result, an advisory team will be formed to work closely with TEPAK.

The municipal announcement further stated that it was agreed during the meeting that another meeting will be held within a month to update on the progress of the study and coordinate actions, aiming for a submission by the end of 2023.

"The goal is to pave the way for the realization of this project, as announced by the President of the Republic," the statement concluded.
