Sky Express Honors Cyprus with Airbus A321neo Naming Ceremony
Celebrating New Horizons
Today, the name 'Cyprus' was bestowed upon the first Airbus A321neo aircraft of Sky express airline during a ceremony at Larnaca Airport. The event was graced by the presence of the President of the Republic, Nicos Christodoulides, the Minister of Transport, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, and the Greek Ambassador to Cyprus.
In his speech, Ioannis Grylos, founder and President of the IOGR Group, to which Sky express belongs, stated, 'About three years ago, amidst the pandemic, we chose Cyprus as our first international destination.' He highlighted that this decision was driven by the opportunities presented by the dynamic Cypriot market. 'With 3 daily flights from Larnaca to Athens and 4 weekly to Thessaloniki, Sky express has carried over half a million passengers from Cyprus,' he added.
Grylos further emphasized that Sky express's presence in Cyprus is not fleeting but a permanent, conscious choice with a long-term perspective. 'We came to stay and become part of Cyprus's progress, contributing to the island’s connectivity and further tourist and economic development. Naming our first Airbus A321neo 'Cyprus' symbolizes our gratitude to the Cypriot society that embraced us and our desire to strengthen ties with Cyprus and its people.'
Eleni Kaloyirou, CEO of Hermes Airports, expressed satisfaction in her greeting, noting, 'We see dynamic companies like Sky express investing, growing, and tangibly supporting the Cypriot economy. Such investments validate our strategy regarding aviation development and connectivity of our airports.'
She added, 'This year at Hermes Airports, we celebrate a record year for passenger traffic, surpassing the historical high of 2019 by the end of December. Consistently, we follow our strategy of route development and airline support, as connectivity is the driving force of our country's tourism and economy.'
Concluding her speech, she reflected on the challenges faced in the aviation and tourism sector in recent years, emphasizing the importance of collective effort and broader collaborations. 'With this mindset, we look forward to continuing and strengthening all our partnerships, particularly with Sky express, a growing company,' she concluded.
