Vafeadis on Hermes Airport Deal: No Confirmation Yet
The Minister of Transport and Works neither Confirmed nor Denied Reports About a Deal With “Hermes” for Paphos and Larnaca Airports.
Minister of Transport and Works, Alexis Vafeadis, neither confirmed nor denied reports regarding an agreement with "Hermes" for Paphos and Larnaca airports on Thursday, emphasizing that a final decision by the Central Committee for Changes and Claims (CCCA) is expected.
After the conclusion of today's Parliamentary Committee on Transport, Communications, and Works, where changes to the photo-surveillance system were discussed, the Minister of Transport was asked whether there is an agreement between "Hermes" and the state regarding Paphos and Larnaca airports.
Mr. Vafeadis said that the Ministry of Transport, following instructions from the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, started negotiations with the contractor, "Hermes," about a year ago with the aim of finding a solution for the implementation of the second phase and everything else that this effort entails.
He added that President Christodoulides' instructions were for this process to fully follow all legal procedures. "Therefore, we have proceeded with the negotiations, we have examined all issues. However, at this stage, a decision from the competent body, which is the Central Committee for Changes and Claims (CCCA), is still pending," he said.
He emphasized that "because President Christodoulides wants everything to be done legally, we neither confirm nor deny anything until we have the final decision from the Central Committee for Changes and Claims."
