Vehicle Registrations in Cyprus Rise 11.5% from January to October 2024
Passenger Car Registrations Increase, Electric and Hybrid Vehicles Gain Market Share
The total number of registered vehicles in Cyprus increased by 11.5% from January to October 2024, reaching 42,930 compared to 38,503 during the same period in 2023, according to data released by the Statistical Service on Friday.
Registrations of passenger saloon cars grew by 8.2%, reaching 33,440 compared to 30,897 during the same period in 2023. Of these, 13,308 (39.8%) were new vehicles, while 20,132 (60.2%) were used. Notably, rental car registrations declined by 29.5%, totaling 3,637.
Gasoline-powered saloon cars held a reduced share of 49.5% of total saloon car registrations in 2024, down from 58.9% in 2023. Diesel-powered vehicles also saw a slight decrease in market share, dropping from 10.1% to 10%. Conversely, electric vehicles increased their share from 2.6% in 2023 to 3.8% in 2024, and hybrid vehicles saw a significant rise from 28.3% to 36.7%.
Bus registrations decreased to 125 from 279 in the January-October 2023 period. However, freight vehicle registrations rose by 31.2% to 4,823, up from 3,676 in 2023. Light truck registrations increased by 34.2% to 3,855, heavy trucks by 29.7% to 576, and road tractors (trailers) by 57.9% to 199. Rental vehicle registrations within this category fell by 17.5% to 193.
Registrations of mopeds under 50cc grew to 627, compared to 263 in the same period in 2023. Registrations of motorcycles above 50cc also rose by 14.4%, reaching 3,348 compared to 2,927 in 2023.
In October 2024, total motor vehicle registrations reached 4,111, marking a decrease of 2.7% from 4,223 in October 2023. Passenger saloon car registrations declined by 8.9% to 3,096, down from 3,398 in October 2023.
