Paphos–Polis Chrysochous Road: How Long Will the Delay Last After Recent Developments

The appeal to the Tenders Review Authority is expected to delay the bidding process.

A delay of about one to one and a half months is expected in the new Paphos–Polis Chrysochous road project following an appeal filed by the company AKTOR with the Tenders Review Authority, until a decision is reached, Director of the Public Works Department, Eleftherios Eleftheriou, told CNA.

He explained that the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works has already put the project out to tender. During this process, AKTOR, one of the companies that had obtained the tender documents, filed an appeal with the Tenders Review Authority requesting that the bidding procedure be suspended until certain points it raised are examined. “This falls within the company’s rights,” noted Mr. Eleftheriou.

He added: “A hearing was held before the Tenders Review Authority, which decided to limit the process until both sides present their positions. These will be reviewed in order for the Authority to decide whether some of the contract terms require revision. We will respect the decision, submit our evidence, and then the Tenders Review Authority will rule.”

The forthcoming decision will determine whether specific contract terms need to be amended before the bidding process can move forward. The project in question covers Phase A, the section of the road network from Agia Marinouda to Stroumpi.

It should be noted that the first phase of the Polis–Paphos road project had previously been terminated by the state in cooperation with the Greek company Intrakat, with the Ministry of Transport stating at the time that there was no other option, as dictated by legal procedures. Following this, the Ministry relaunched the tender process, Mr. Eleftheriou concluded.
