Wholesale Trade Jumps 11.2% in Q1 2026 as Motor Vehicle Sales Take a Hit

Turnover Value Index of Wholesale Trade Up 11.2% in q1M 2026, Vehicles Sales Down

Fresh CYSTAT figures reveal a stark contrast in Cyprus’s commercial sectors for early 2026, with wholesale trade thriving while the automotive market experiences a distinct cooldown.

Wholesale Sector Leads Growth

The Turnover Value Index of Wholesale Trade (Division 46) during the first quarter of 2026 recorded an increase of 11.2% compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year, according to data published by the Statistical Service on Monday.

Wholesale trade recorded growth across almost all economic activities. The sole exception to this upward trend was wholesale trade on a fee or contract basis, which registered a decline of 18.5%.

Automotive Market Faces Slowdown

For the same quarter, the Turnover Value Index of Sales and Repair of Motor Vehicles (Division 45) recorded a decrease of 3.6% compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

A significant decrease of 9.4% was specifically recorded in the sale of motor vehicles. However, it wasn't all bad news for the automotive sector: vehicle maintenance and repair services, alongside the sale of vehicle parts and accessories, both managed to record net increases.
