CUT’s Tourism Department Among Top 100 Globally in Shanghai Rankings

Recognized as the Highest-Ranked Academic Department in Cyprus

The Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management at the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) has been ranked among the top 100 globally and 19th in Europe, according to the Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2024, as announced by CUT.

The rankings, published by the renowned Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), also known as the Shanghai List, are considered one of the most recognized and credible assessments of global academic performance. The list was originally developed by Shanghai Jiaotong University.

CUT highlighted that this is a "tremendous success," as the department is positioned among the best universities worldwide. The Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management is ranked in the 76-100 bracket globally. "This marks the highest ranking achieved by any academic department in Cyprus across all fields," the university added.

Factors Behind the Success

The department’s academic and research excellence, both at the collective and individual levels, alongside its commitment to long-term strategic planning and goals, have created the conditions for such recognition. Additionally, investment in human resources has played a crucial role. Since 2023, the department has evolved into the School of Tourism, Hospitality, and Entrepreneurship, based in Paphos.

As part of its continued efforts toward growth and progress, CUT noted the establishment of the Academy of Tourism, a result of integrating the Higher Hotel Institute Cyprus (AXIK) into the university’s new school. This strategic move reflects the institution’s vision for advancing tourism education and innovation in Cyprus.
