European Researcher's Night Opens Today in Nicosia
Highlighting Science's Impact on Daily Life in Unique and Entertaining Ways
The most significant celebration of research, innovation, and science, the European Researcher’s Night, is set to open its doors today, Friday, 29th of September, from 9 am to 10 pm, at the State Exhibition in Nicosia. Hosted by the Research and Innovation Foundation, this marks the 17th year the event has been organized, in collaboration with major stakeholders in Cyprus' research, innovation, and business sectors.
Themed “Mission: CONNECT”, this year’s event will spotlight “European Missions” which address global challenges such as: 1) Climate Change Adaptation, 2) Cancer, 3) Healthy Oceans, Seas, Coastal and Inland Waters, 4) Climate Neutral and Smart Cities, and 5) Healthy Soil and Food. Scientists, academics, researchers, and entrepreneurs will showcase their diverse activities and achievements.
Visitors can explore over 60 booths manned by hundreds of researchers and participate in interactive experiments involving technology, multimedia, and simulations. They can also use specialized scientific equipment and engage in various activities, games, contests, and entertaining performances.
Special mention goes to the 'Science Unfold' competition, which invites middle school students to present a scientific topic of their choice in a creative manner, all in just three minutes. The evening's program will include an awards ceremony for the 'Science Unfold' and the 'eBook Writing' contests, culminating in the crowning of the best booth at 7 pm.
Furthermore, from 9 pm to 10 pm, visitors can enjoy an "Improvisation Comedy Show in Science", featuring comedians Giorgos Angelopoulos, Yiannis Sarakatsanis, and Soso Chatzimanoli.
Under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, the European Researchers’ Night is an initiative by the European Commission. Its goal is to highlight the impact of science on the daily lives of citizens in original and entertaining ways.
