Over 70 Participants Explored Cutting-Edge Advances in Computational Sciences Through Expert-Led Presentations

An advanced educational seminar titled “Introduction to Computational Modeling, Deep Learning, and Quantum Computing” was recently organized by Neapolis University Pafos in collaboration with the Cyprus Institute.

According to an announcement, the event attracted more than 70 students, researchers, and academics from Cyprus and abroad, reflecting the growing interest in advanced technologies.

The seminar featured presentations by leading scientists who shared the latest developments in computational sciences. Among the speakers was Professor Konstantinos Dovrolis, who discussed the importance of deep learning and emphasized the need for transparency in AI architectures, moving beyond the traditional "black box" approach.

Dr. Myrianthi Chatzicharalambous highlighted the role of computational modeling in personalized medicine, showcasing its applications in the precise diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases and oncology treatments. Meanwhile, Dr. Andreas Athinodorou introduced participants to the fundamental concepts of quantum computing, underlining its critical role in data security and solving complex problems such as cryptography.

This seminar was part of the EuroCC2 program, which promotes High-Performance Computing (HPC) and High-Performance Data Analytics (HPDA) technologies. Through the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC), functioning as a National Competence Center, the program provides researchers and businesses with training and technical guidance.

The seminar underscored Neapolis University’s commitment to advancing academic excellence and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. Events like this also position Cyprus as a leading hub for technological innovation and high-performance computing, preparing the next generation of scientists and professionals to tackle future challenges.
