Youth Tech Fest 2024 at Limassol's Frederick University

The Festival Encourages Young People to Become Active in the Fields of Entrepreneurship, Technology, Science and Art

The University of Frederick is co-organising the 2nd Youth Tech Fest Cyprus, a celebration of technology, innovation, and creativity. The Youth Tech Fest 2024 will take place on Saturday, April 20, between 09:00 and 16:30, at the University of Frederick in Limassol, offering a series of exciting, interactive workshops, competitions, and other activities for children and young people in fields such as Robotics, Gaming, Woodworking, XR/VR, scientific experiments, etc. Renowned academics, programmers, engineers, and scientists will guide participants in various activities.

Recognising the need to promote digital literacy in modern societies, the Youth Tech Fest aims to encourage more and more children and young people to engage in the ESTEAM fields (Entrepreneurship, Science, Technology, Art, Mathematics): Technology, Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Positive Sciences, and Arts. The goal of the organisation is to provide equal opportunities to all children and young people, regardless of gender and socio-economic background. In this context, girls aged 14-19 will have the opportunity to participate in the Girls Go Circular workshop, an educational program focusing on developing digital skills and exploring the circular economy. The workshop is a collaboration between Junior Achievement Cyprus and the University of Frederick, aiming to address the underrepresentation of girls in the digital and entrepreneurial sectors in Europe. This is one of a series of initiatives undertaken by the University as part of its campaign titled "To All Women and Girls: Join the Journey in Technology and Engineering." At the Youth Tech Fest, the University's Robotics Academy will offer Robotics workshops, while the FUF Racing Team of the University will present a single-seat Formula-type vehicle built from scratch by the students participating in the team.

The Youth Tech Fest invites all primary and secondary schools in Cyprus not only to participate in its activities but also to submit student projects related to the ESTEAM fields to the Open Competition of the event. All projects will be recognised during the Award Ceremony.

Another important component of the Youth Tech Fest is the Youth Tech Summit, during which keynote speakers share knowledge and best practices in the field of Educational Technology, both locally and internationally. The Conference offers networking opportunities and knowledge exchange on digital transformation and the development of new skills in the ESTEAM fields.

Ms Natassa Frederick, Chair of the Board of the University of Frederick, stated: "We are particularly pleased to co-organise this year's Youth Tech Fest. Where entrepreneurship, sciences, technology, mechanics, and arts converge, innovation triumphs. Supporting talent, without exclusions, so that they can reach their full potential is of great importance for the evolution and shaping of a sustainable future. For this reason, we have incorporated activities that cultivate sustainability skills and help participants develop digital, technological, and entrepreneurial skills, emphasising the circular economy. Initiatives like this are particularly important for cultivating a generation of change agents during the green and digital transition, which is expected to reshape the labour market radically."

Mr. Sean Alimov, founder of the Youth Tech Fest initiative, stated: "We look forward, for yet another year, to seeing at this celebration of creativity, technology, and innovation, some of the most talented and eager minds from Cyprus and the international community, as well as dedicated educators, decision-makers, and representatives of leading companies. We firmly believe in the value of ongoing education in the ESTEAM fields, as it empowers our children with knowledge and skills of high demand to orient themselves in fields that include innovation and change. Limassol is considered Cyprus's technological and maritime hub, and we are particularly pleased to collaborate this year with the University of Frederick to co-organise the 2nd Youth Tech Fest in such a vibrant city."

The event is under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth (MECSY). Digital Tree is the communication sponsor of the Youth Tech Fest 2024.

Admission is free to all activities of the festival.
