Syros as the "Cultural Capital of the Cyclades" in the International Travel Magazine EnVols

Two Extensive Features in Air France's Travel Magazine Highlight the Island's Cultural Identity, Architecture, and Unique Character.

Syros continues to strengthen its international presence, as EnVols, Air France's travel magazine with millions of readers and visitors from across Europe and the world, dedicates two extensive articles to the island, highlighting it as a destination that combines history, cultural heritage, architecture, and an authentic hospitality experience.

In the first feature, focusing on the most beautiful Cycladic islands worth visiting in Greece, Syros is ranked among the top destinations of the island complex. In the second, which presents five Cycladic islands for travelers to discover, it is highlighted as an exceptional choice for those seeking a different and authentic Aegean experience in 2026.

The articles emphasize that, although Syros is not among the busiest tourist destinations in the Cyclades, it possesses a distinct identity that sets it apart. It is described as a place with a strong cultural footprint, with special reference made to Hermoupolis, where, as noted, visitors discover unique architectural and historical elements. Miaouli Square, the impressive neoclassical buildings, the characteristic arches, and the historic Apollo Theatre are highlighted as iconic landmarks reflecting the long history and timeless cultural radiance of the Cyclades' capital. At the same time, reference is made to the rich calendar of cultural events hosted on the island throughout the year.

EnVols also highlights the easy access to Syros from Athens, via both air and ferry connections, an element that further enhances its appeal as a travel destination.

International Promotion Centered on Culture

This latest coverage is the result of targeted outreach actions by the Municipality of Syros – Hermoupolis to promote the destination in international markets.

"The promotion of Syros by reputable international media confirms that culture is one of the island's most important competitive advantages. The history, architecture, arts, and vibrant cultural activity create a comprehensive experience that differentiates Syros and strengthens its position as a destination with a distinct identity in the Cyclades. The systematic and qualitative promotion of our land is a strategic priority to enhance its recognition and competitiveness," stated the Deputy Mayor of Tourism of the Municipality of Syros – Hermoupolis, Giannis Voutsinos.

Meanwhile, the public response was exceptionally positive to the commemorative events marking 200 years since the naming of Hermoupolis. The main event took place at the Holy Metropolitan Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Savior, at the exact spot where the historic naming of the city was celebrated two centuries ago, lending strong symbolism and historical significance to the anniversary.

The event was organized by the Municipality of Syros – Hermoupolis in cooperation with the Region of South Aegean and under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy, confirming the importance of Syros' historical and cultural heritage to its modern tourism identity.
