Cyprus Delays Carbon Tax Decision Again
Green tax package under further review as government races to address key issues before Parliament's summer recess.
The Cypriot government has once again delayed a final decision on implementing green taxes, including a carbon tax, as the Council of Ministers deferred the matter to a future meeting.
Finance Minister Makis Keravnos confirmed that both the proposed green taxation package and accompanying compensatory measures are still under review. “The overall package is undergoing further refinement, and decisions will be made in an upcoming Cabinet session,” he told reporters after the Council meeting, without specifying a timeline.
Keravnos emphasized that the government’s goal remains to advance several critical legislative priorities before Parliament breaks for the summer in July. However, he acknowledged that time is limited, and green taxation is just one of many pending issues.
The Minister reaffirmed that the current approach to the green tax issue remains within the framework of the postponement and concessions already granted by the EU.
