Greenhouse Gas Emission Rights Price Experiences Slight Decline in September

The price for Greenhouse Gas Emission Rights in the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), also known as the "Emissions Exchange," has shown a decrease. By the end of September 2023, the price stood at €81.90 per ton of carbon dioxide (tCO2). This reflects a 1.8% drop from the month's starting price of €83.42 per ton.
However, when considering the broader trend, the price still remains on the higher side. There has been a roughly 9% increase since the start of 2023 when the rate was €75.27 per ton. Additionally, compared to the closing price of €85.52 at the end of August 2023, there's a 4.2% decrease in the emission rights price for September.
Historically, the Emissions Exchange saw significant growth in 2021. The price for emission rights surged by a notable 128.3%, settling at €74.57 per ton of carbon dioxide by December 20 of that year.
