Directors Guild of Cyprus Supports State, Invest Cyprus, and the Cyprus Audiovisual Committee
Through the Cash Rebate Scheme, Cypriot Entertainment Has Gained Global Recognition.
The Directors Guild of Cyprus wishes to express its support for the State, Invest Cyprus, and the Cyprus Audiovisual Committee for their valuable work in advancing the film industry in our country, particularly through the implementation of the Cash Rebate Scheme.
This Scheme has proven to be a catalyst for our industry's development, significantly strengthening Cyprus' position as an attractive destination for international film productions. It has empowered Cypriot auteurs and producers to realize their artistic visions and participate in ambitious international co-productions.
Talented directors, including Stelana Kliris and Minos Papas, along with Cypriot production companies such as Green Olive Films and AMP Filmworks, have benefited significantly from this initiative, successfully bringing their feature films to a global audience through international collaborations. The Scheme not only promotes artistic creation but also drives economic growth, job creation, and infrastructure development within our industry, while enhancing Cyprus's global profile.
Thanks to the excellent work undertaken in recent years, Cyprus has gained recognition through major international platforms and entertainment giants including Netflix, Amazon, Paramount, Warner Bros, ITV, and Canal Plus, which feature Cypriot productions or co-productions filmed in Cyprus. Hundreds of our fellow citizens have had the opportunity to work alongside these companies, gaining invaluable experience.
We express our sincere appreciation for the ongoing efforts that support and advance the cinematic arts in Cyprus, fostering an environment of trust and professionalism for our country's industry, and creating the productive and welcoming atmosphere that international producers experience in Cyprus through the Cash Rebate Scheme.
We must emphasize that the Cyprus Audiovisual Scheme ranks among the most reliable and flexible in Europe. We urge the State, Invest Cyprus, and the Audiovisual Committee to maintain these high standards, as this is essential to preserving the positive relationships with major international production companies that have developed in recent years. We also call upon the State to maintain its prompt payment schedule to producers, as stipulated in the Scheme. As industry professionals, we know firsthand that Cyprus excels in this area compared to most EU countries—a distinguishing feature that sets us apart from other film destinations.
Finally, the Directors Guild of Cyprus affirms its continued support for State policies that promote the cinematic arts and ensure our industry remains vibrant, competitive, and capable of making substantial contributions to our country's cultural and economic landscape.
