Embroidered Dialogues: A Scarf Celebrating Romania and Cyprus
It Will Be Launched During The Fashion Showcase “Threads Of Friendship: Celebrating The International Day Of The Romanian Blouse, Women’s Entrepreneurship, And The Cultural Bonds Between Romania And Cyprus”.
Cypriot artist and textile designer Michalis Pantelidis presents “Embroidered Dialogues”, a new Romanian–Cypriot Friendship Scarf created in collaboration with Flori de Ie and the Embassy of Romania to the Republic of Cyprus.
The scarf will be officially launched during the fashion showcase “Threads of Friendship: Celebrating the International Day of the Romanian Blouse, Women’s Entrepreneurship, and the Cultural Bonds between Romania and Cyprus”, which will take place on Friday, 12 June, at 18:30, at the Landmark Hotel Nicosia, Pool Area.
The event is organized by the Embassy of Romania to the Republic of Cyprus, in partnership with Flori de Ie and Michalis Pantelidis, highlighting the enduring friendship between Romania and Cyprus through the universal language of cultural heritage, craftsmanship, and contemporary artistic expression.
The evening will feature an exclusive presentation of authentic Romanian heritage costumes from the Flori de Ie collection, created by Christina Chiriac, alongside the official launch of the Romanian–Cypriot Friendship Scarf, “Embroidered Dialogues”.
The fashion showcase will present twenty traditional Romanian costumes, modeled by ten Cypriot and ten Romanian women entrepreneurs, symbolizing the important contribution of women to economic development, cultural dialogue, and international cooperation.
“Embroidered Dialogues” was inspired by the rich textile traditions of both Romania and Cyprus. Drawing upon traditional Romanian motifs and Cypriot handcrafted embroidery, the project creates a shared visual narrative celebrating cultural heritage across borders and generations.
Through photographic documentation and digital collage, Michalis Pantelidis reinterprets details from traditional Romanian blouses provided by Flori de Ie and handcrafted Cypriot textiles from the Cyprus Handicrafts Service, transforming them into a contemporary wearable artwork.
Symbols of protection, spirituality, prosperity, and identity are interwoven throughout the design, reflecting the timeless and universal language of textile traditions. The final scarf becomes a dialogue between Romania and Cyprus through textiles, embroidery, and art.
For Michalis Pantelidis, the project continues his artistic practice of transforming cultural memory, photography, and textile heritage into contemporary wearable artworks. His work explores how traditional symbols and handcrafted details can be reimagined through a modern visual language, creating pieces that carry stories of place, identity, and emotion.
The event is organized with the support of the Presidential Administration of Romania, the Confederation of Women Entrepreneurs in Romania, and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The gathering will bring together representatives of the Government and Parliament of the Republic of Cyprus, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the business and academic communities, as well as members of the Romanian and Cypriot diaspora communities.
Media representatives are invited to attend and cover this special celebration of cultural heritage, artistic collaboration, and the cultural relationship between Romania and Cyprus.
