Nicosia Hosts High-Level EU Children's Conference

EU Conference on Children’s Welfare to Take Place in Nicosia

The Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union is organizing a High-Level Conference entitled «No Child Is Left Behind: Promoting Child Well-Being and Combating Child Poverty» on 20–21 May 2026 in Nicosia, co-funded by the European Commission.

A press release issued by the Office of the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Clea Hadjistephanou-Papaellina, said the Conference will bring together Ministers, senior EU policymakers, leading experts, academics, representatives of European and national organizations, civil society representatives, and representatives of the Cyprus Children’s Parliament, with the aim of promoting integrated, preventive, and inclusive approaches to addressing child poverty and enhancing child well-being across the EU.

The Conference follows the meeting of the National Child Guarantee Coordinators and is particularly timely in light of the recent announcement by the European Commission of the new Social Package, including the first-ever EU Anti-Poverty Strategy, the Housing Initiative, the strengthening of the European Child Guarantee, as well as the strengthening of the Disability Strategy.

Discussions will focus on the structural drivers of poverty, investment in early childhood, and the effective implementation of the European Child Guarantee, contributing to the advancement of the EU Anti-Poverty Strategy the reinforcement of the Child Guarantee and the commitment to a Europe where no child is left behind.
