Nicosia’s Soundscapes: A Unique Musical Performance by Nabu Pera
Nicosia 2030 Hosts “Nicosia’s Soundscapes” as Part of Its European Capital of Culture Candidacy
Nicosia 2030, a candidate for the European Capital of Culture, presents the newly formed group Nabu Pera and their musical performance, “Nicosia’s Soundscapes,” on February 11, 2025, at 8:30 PM at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre. This innovative show, part of the 5th International Festival “Nicosia…That Never Ends,” draws inspiration from the city’s urban soundscape.
The ensemble, consisting of musicians Savvas Thoma, Natasa Hadjiandreou, and Dimitris Yasemides, explores the sounds of the city where they live and work. Their aim is to offer the audience a musical experience that redefines the relationship between modern individuals and the surrounding acoustic environment.
Urban soundscapes play a vital role in shaping a city’s identity and character. The complex system of daily sounds cannot be overlooked. Simultaneously, modern life, influenced by technological advancements, introduces new sounds of varying qualities and intensities, gradually embedding them into everyday life. The daily exposure to this intricate system of sounds and its influence on our interactions form the driving force behind this performance.
“Nicosia’s Soundscapes” creatively interprets the city’s auditory environment, drawing influences from diverse musical genres. The performance seeks to engage the audience in a reflective journey through the familiar yet often unnoticed sounds of urban life. Duration: 60 minutes.
