Oil Residue Pollution Found Near Old Cement Plant in Limassol

Source Under Investigation

A minor oil pollution incident was detected in a rocky coastal area near the old Moni cement factory in Pyrgos, Limassol, and was promptly and effectively addressed, according to an announcement by the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research.

Specifically, the department reported that, following information received about a possible oil-related pollution, it carried out a thorough on-site inspection and identified a limited presence of solid petroleum residues (tar) on rocks and quay structures.

The area was subsequently cordoned off with a floating barrier, and a full cleanup of the pollution sources was conducted using anti-pollution equipment, absorbents, and a high-pressure water jet cleaning machine.

The source of the pollution is currently under investigation.
