During a cleanup at the seabed in the harbor in front of Kato Paphos Castle, 1.2 tons of debris were collected yesterday, including tires, metal, and even an armchair.

According to a statement from the AKTI Project and Research Center, the cleanup was conducted by the Center, the Cyprus Ports Authority (Paphos Port), and the Paphos Port and Marine Police, in collaboration with the CYDIVE diving center and the Paphos Free Divers team.

It was noted that in just one hour, 12 divers collected 1.2 tons of debris. Specifically, they gathered 200 metal cans, 50 glass bottles, 27 car tires, many pieces of metal, "ghost nets" that continue to fish by themselves after being lost or abandoned, and even an armchair.

The AKTI Center for Studies and Research expressed warm thanks to all attendees for their cooperation and support, emphasizing that "the seas are not garbage dumps. We love our coasts and keep our seas clean. The sea is our life."

The event was attended by Paphos Municipal Councilors, Eucleides Ambrosiadis, Chairman of the Beach Committee, and Andreas Grigoriadis, a member of the Beach Committee.
