A Personal First Look at The Landmark Nicosia: Where Legacy Meets Modern Luxury
A Contemporary Reinvention That Honors a Beloved Classic
Walking into The Landmark Nicosia for the first time feels like stepping into a conversation between past and present. The hotel has reopened under Marriott’s Autograph Collection with a complete transformation, yet it carries a deep respect for its roots. That balance between heritage and reinvention is what stayed with me long after I left.
The first moment that overwhelmed me was the indoor balcony area. The iconic glass elevators, an architectural signature of the original hotel, remain exactly where memory preserved them. Even though everything around them has been refreshed, this central space acts as a bridge between eras. It was comforting in the best possible way, as if the designers understood that history should not be erased but elevated.
Everywhere else, a new vision takes the lead. The reception area is now brighter and more contemporary, the bar feels effortlessly cosmopolitan, and the ballroom and meeting rooms show the kind of refinement expected from an Autograph Collection property. It is not renovation for the sake of modernization, but redesign with intention.
Breakfast, though, deserves its own spotlight. The quality is unmistakably high, with a spread that feels curated rather than overwhelming. Their tahinopitta was exceptional, the pistachio croissant alone worth waking up early for, and the cook-to-order omelets brought a personal touch to the whole experience. It is the kind of breakfast that sets the tone for your day, and one that makes you want to linger just a little longer (and maybe skip lunch).
The hotel’s connection to culture is also impossible to miss. In collaboration with Artion Gallery, The Landmark features a dedicated gallery space as well as carefully placed artworks throughout the property. The pieces, created by both prominent Cypriot and international artists, bring bursts of color, texture, and emotion into the hotel’s most unexpected corners. It feels less like décor and more like a curated journey, adding depth and character to the spaces and giving every walk through the lobby or corridors a sense of discovery.
We also explored the gym and pool facilities. They are modern, spacious, and clearly designed for both hotel guests and committed members. I didn’t hesitate to put my name on the waiting list to join. If the member experience matches the aesthetic and atmosphere, it will be one of the most desirable wellness spots in the city.
The Landmark Nicosia manages something rare in hospitality: it honors the emotional memory of a beloved institution while confidently stepping into a new chapter. It is familiar yet completely refreshed, respectful but forward-thinking. For me, that balance is its greatest achievement, and it makes the hotel feel like a place you want to return to again and again.
