Public and Cultural Creators' Priorities for Cyprus' Cultural Landscape Revealed

Atlas Programme Surveys Highlight Key Needs and Suggestions

The wishes and suggestions of the public and cultural creators were documented in two quantitative surveys conducted as part of the Atlas Programme in 2024. The findings were presented on Monday at the Deputy Ministry of Culture in Nicosia.

According to the survey results, 34% of the public believes the Department should prioritize making significant cultural events and activities more accessible to the entire population. Meanwhile, 32% emphasized the importance of attracting audiences to cultural activities, and 31% highlighted the need to engage young people in cultural events.

Cultural creators identified key strategies to increase public engagement in cultural events. The most prominent suggestion, supported by 55% of respondents, was the creation of a mobile application featuring a unified calendar of all cultural events in Cyprus. Additionally, 54% advocated for launching a campaign to promote contemporary culture.

In her address, Deputy Minister of Culture Vasiliki Kassianidou outlined the rationale behind conducting these surveys, describing them as "a significant milestone for the Deputy Ministry of Culture."

Kassianidou stated that the surveys capture the needs, opinions, and expectations of both the public and cultural creators. She noted that a quantitative mapping of the contemporary culture ecosystem is beginning to take shape in a horizontal representation.

"Qualitative research is being conducted in parallel, with focus groups for each art form currently underway. The goal is to complete this process by the end of 2025," she added.
