Reuse and Repair Center to Be Established in Limassol
Part of a €2 Million EU-Funded LIFE Project, the Center Aims to Promote Reuse and Waste Reduction by 2029
A Reuse and Repair Center is expected to be developed on a plot owned by the Municipality of Limassol, as discussed during a morning meeting between municipal authorities, the Limassol District Organization (EOA Limassol), and the Department of Environment.
Mayor Yiannis Armeytis said that in previous meetings, including one with the Minister of Agriculture Maria Panayiotou, the Municipality had proposed offering a specific municipal plot for the creation of the Center. The facility will collect, sort, and repair products, which will then be made available for resale.
“The Department of Environment had long been searching for state-owned plots in industrial zones without success, and the Municipality, on its own initiative, offered this plot, with the condition that municipal ownership would not be forfeited,” the Mayor explained.
The proposed site is located in the central market area and covers more than 1,000 square meters.
Mayor Armeytis added that the purpose of today’s meeting was “to define the terms of our cooperation, proceed with the signing of a memorandum of understanding, and launch the project design tender.”
He also noted that the Reuse and Repair Center will be part of a LIFE programme funded by the European Union, with a total budget of around €2 million. The project has a completion horizon of September 2029 and aligns with the Municipality’s broader policy of promoting reuse and reducing waste.
“This initiative gives a second life to products,” he stated. If all proceeds as planned, the project is expected to be completed in about three years.
