SafeCY: New App Helps You Find the Nearest Civil Defense Shelter

2,200 Civil Defense shelters are operational across the country, capable of accommodating up to 30% of the population if needed.

The Cypriot government has launched a new mobile application called SafeCY, designed to enhance public safety during emergencies by helping citizens quickly locate the nearest Civil Defense shelter.

Announced by Minister of the Interior Constantinos Ioannou, the app is now available for download on both Google Play and Apple’s App Store, supporting both Greek and English. SafeCY enables users to identify nearby shelters based on their real-time location, with additional search options via address or postal code.

The platform is part of a broader effort to modernize the country’s emergency alert systems. By integrating digital mapping, shelter capacity data, and step-by-step navigation, SafeCY serves as a crucial tool for fast and reliable information when time is critical.

In addition to geolocation features, the app includes detailed instructions and useful information on how to respond in emergency scenarios, reinforcing Cyprus’s civil protection infrastructure.

Currently, 2,200 Civil Defense shelters are operational across the country, capable of accommodating up to 30% of the population if needed. The app plays a vital role in Cyprus’s strategy to strengthen its early warning and civil defense capabilities, especially amid rising concerns about regional instability.

Authorities encourage the public to install SafeCY in advance and familiarize themselves with its features, underlining that preparedness saves lives.
