SupportCY Deploys Drones for Early and Timely Fire Detection

Bank of Cyprus's SupportCY is further strengthening its operational capabilities by deploying Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (drones) for the purposes of fire prevention and early detection, in cooperation with the Fire Service, according to a Bank of Cyprus announcement.

The utilization of drones is part of a broader framework of operational readiness and risk management, aiming for the continuous surveillance of vulnerable areas, the immediate identification of fire outbreaks, and the timely notification of the competent authorities.

"Through scheduled and coordinated patrols, drones can locate fire hotspots and provide immediate updates, achieving the maximum possible readiness. At the beginning of 2026, the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (Drone) Unit of the SupportCY Volunteer Corps was established, featuring modern drones, experienced and certified operators, as well as the capability for action and image transmission throughout Cyprus," the statement adds.

Simultaneously, it notes that the SupportCY Volunteer Corps is completing the training of new and existing volunteers in the coming days regarding fire prevention, response, and restoration, in collaboration with competent state services, specifically the Fire Service.

To date, four local and two island-wide readiness exercises have already been conducted, involving all units of the Volunteer Corps, as well as the newly established Firefighting Helicopter Support Unit, which utilizes specialized inflatable tanks for refueling firefighting helicopters.

The Head of SupportCY, Marios Stavrou, stated that in anticipation of a difficult year, SupportCY has enhanced its operational capacity across Cyprus, always following safety standards and European quality standards for protective gear and team equipment.

"Additionally, the recent creation of the Drone Unit aims to further strengthen prevention efforts in cooperation with the Fire Service. Collaboration between state services, volunteers, local authorities, and all stakeholders is the key to protecting our land from fires," he concluded.
