Swimming for Hope: 14 Kilometres of Solidarity by Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre’s Nurse Georgios Fantousis

Georgios Fantousis, a nurse at the Day Care Unit of the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre, is set to turn a personal athletic challenge into a powerful act of humanity. On Saturday, 14 June 2025, he will participate in the international open-water swimming event Oceanman Italy, swimming 14 kilometres across Lake Orta in the Italian Alps.

With every stroke, Georgios carries a message of support, compassion, and hope for the Centre’s patients: you are not alone. There are people by your side who care, who support you, and who walk this path with you, not only within the hospital walls but far beyond them.

His participation in this race takes on a philanthropic dimension, as its goal is to raise funds* in support of the Oncology Centre and its patients.

Having previously competed twice in the same event over half the distance; Georgios returns this year with a clear determination to complete the whole route. A journey that is not only physical, but also deeply symbolic, a passage through personal limits, adversity, and uncertainty, mirroring the daily reality of those living with cancer.

This effort can become a collective one. Through a simple yet meaningful gesture, each of us can send a message of hope, support, and strength.
